Automobiles in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Officers reported they were alerted by a individual who found a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials state initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.

A high-ranking political figure said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
